An Hour of Learning and Mastery
Every session runs 1 hour and follows the same rhythm. It is simple by design; the structure is the point.
Your child walks in after school, signs in, and finds a seat. They pull out their planner and whatever came home that day: a math worksheet, a reading log, or science notes to review. There is no assigned station and no formal agenda. The only rule is to have something to work on.
For the next forty to fifty minutes, the room is quiet. Students work independently on their own assignments while a trained tutor circulates, guides their progress, and gives feedback as they work. Other students are working too, and that quiet peer momentum is more effective than any amount of nagging at home.
When your child meets a challenge, whether a math problem that does not make sense or a science question that needs another set of eyes, they raise a hand. A trained tutor comes over, looks at what they are working on, and guides them through it. The tutor asks questions, walks through the first step together, and verifies that your child can complete the next problem on their own before moving on. This is where learning becomes mastery.
If your child finishes all their homework before the hour is up, the remaining time becomes IXL practice, which acts as an ongoing assessment of their progress. Math and reading/language arts — always covered
These are our core subjects and what our tutors are trained to teach. Every Homework Club session has at least one tutor on the floor who can guide math and reading at any K-12 level. If your child brings home an algebra worksheet, a reading comprehension passage, or a grammar exercise, someone in the room can assist, in real time, without guesswork. This is what we do.
Other subjects — depends on the day
Several tutors are typically on the floor during Homework Club, and between them the team often has working knowledge of science, history, and other common school subjects. Students frequently receive support with these subjects. But this is a real benefit, not a guarantee — we cannot promise that a tutor who knows tenth grade chemistry will be working the same day your child comes in. If your student needs consistent support in a specific subject outside of math and reading, ask us directly rather than assuming. We tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Every Homework Club member receives full access to IXL, and the platform contributes real value to your child's learning even beyond a tutor led session. The assessments it provides establish performance and identify needs and challenges, and the practice results feed data driven instruction.
Baseline assessment
Every child completes an IXL pre and post evaluation assessment around their first session. The assessment adapts question by question and produces a detailed snapshot of your child's actual ability level in math and reading — not the grade on their report card, but where they genuinely are. That snapshot also drives data driven instruction: it tells our tutors and you where support is needed and where your child can move ahead. If the baseline shows your child at or near grade level, Homework Club provides the structure and accountability that finishes the work. If it shows a gap, we tell you honestly and show you what the path forward looks like.
Parent IXL login with live progress
Parents receive their own login to the IXL parent dashboard, where they can see what their child is practicing, how the child is scoring, and how much time the child spends — updated in real time. There is no need to wait for a monthly report to see whether anything is happening.
At home IXL practice across subjects
Every member has unlimited at home access to the full IXL skill library, in math and reading across grades K through 12. Even on days your child does not attend the center, the student can log in and keep working. The platform provides immediate feedback on every question, so practice at home is purposeful rather than busywork.
Annual or periodic reassessment
On an annual or periodic basis, we re administer the IXL assessment so you can see growth against the baseline. For a Homework Club student, this is often the clearest signal of whether the current setup is working or whether it is time to add instruction.
Homework Aligned to State Standards
Your child's homework is not random; it is tied to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the same standards that drive STAAR testing. In Wylie ISD and across the state, students in grades 3 through 8 take STAAR reading language arts and math every year, and five End of Course exams — including Algebra I, English I, and English II — gate high school graduation.
This is not merely a test preparation session. Seasonal STAAR preparation is open to all Homework Club members when test dates approach, but the daily work matters more: completing assignments, building study habits, and having an adult nearby who can catch misunderstandings before they grow. That is data driven instruction in action — small corrections made daily, based on what each assignment reveals.

When one subject needs real teaching. One instructor session and one Homework Club day each week. Includes a personalized IXL skill plan and direct tutor-led instruction targeting specific gaps.
Two Sessions
When math and reading both need attention. Two instructor sessions and one Homework Club day each week — both sessions may be taken in one subject or split across two. The most comprehensive option for a student who needs to close gaps in both core areas simultaneously.

Additional Practical Details
Hours
Monday through Friday, after school. Sessions run for 1 hour. Your child comes two days per week on a schedule that works for your family. Same days each week is ideal, but drop in scheduling means flexibility when you need it.
Location
201 Hooper Rd., Suite 100, Wylie, TX 75098. Families come to us from Wylie, Sachse, Murphy, Parker, and Plano. All sessions are in person; we do not offer virtual or hybrid options. The in person environment is what makes it work.
Miss a day?
Drop in scheduling means that if your child misses their usual day, they can come a different day that week, space permitting. It is flexible, but we recommend consistency. The students who get the most out of Homework Club are the ones who come the same days each week and treat it as routine.
What to bring
Your child brings their school homework, and that is all that is required. A planner or assignment list is helpful, and a water bottle is a good idea. We provide the workspace, the accountability, and the support. They bring the work.
Break closures
Homework Club stays open through spring and fall break. We are closed for Thanksgiving week and winter break only. We post closure dates in advance so families can plan around them.
Seasonal test prep
When STAAR and EOC dates approach, we offer seasonal test prep sessions open to all Homework Club members. These sessions are optional, focused, and timed to the testing window. They are not a separate program; they are extra support when it is needed most.
Questions families ask about Homework Club
Is Homework Club tutoring?
Homework Club is supervised work time with a trained tutor present. A student who gets stuck raises a hand, and the tutor comes over to guide them through it. There is no scheduled instruction, no personalized skill plan, and no tutor sitting with your child for a full hour teaching new material. That is what our One Session and Two Sessions programs provide. Homework Club addresses the environment; instruction programs address gaps in skills. Many families use both.
Can my child bring homework from any subject?
Yes, your child brings whatever school assigned that day. Math and reading and language arts are always covered by the tutors on the floor. For other subjects such as science or history, support is often available depending on which tutors are working that day, and several of our staff have strong working knowledge across common school subjects. We cannot promise that a tutor who knows a specific subject will always be present. If your child consistently needs support in a subject outside math and reading, talk to us directly and we will tell you honestly whether we can support it.
What if my child doesn't have homework that day?
This is common, especially with younger students or on lighter school days. When there is no homework, your child uses the session for IXL practice in math or reading at their level. Every member has full access to the IXL skill library, so there is always something productive to work on. The hour is for academic work, without phones or games.
What if we need to miss a day?
Because Homework Club uses drop in scheduling, your child can come a different day that week if space allows. We recommend picking consistent days and sticking to them, because the routine is part of what makes the program effective. When you need flexibility, it is there; just let us know.
My child needs more than homework help. What do we do?
If the diagnostic shows your child has a real skill gap, perhaps behind in math or reading, Homework Club alone may not close it. That is not a failure of the program; the program is simply not designed for that purpose. We tell you honestly and recommend adding One Session instruction in the area that needs work. Many families start with Homework Club, see the diagnostic results, and add instruction once they know where the gap is.
How will I know if it's working?
The simplest measure is whether your child's homework gets done and whether your evening feels calmer. That is what most parents notice first, often within the first few weeks. Beyond that, the parent IXL login shows what your child practices and how they score, and the annual or periodic reassessment gives a clear before and after picture on grade level growth.
Will my child be sitting with kids their own age?
Homework Club includes students in grades K through 12, so a range of ages is in the room at any given time. Students work independently at their own desks on their own assignments; this is not a classroom grouped by grade. The shared element is the work ethic, not the curriculum. For some younger students, seeing older students working quietly is its own kind of motivation.
How is this different from an after-school program at a daycare or rec center?
The difference is in two things. First, the adults in the room are trained tutors who can explain a math concept or review a paragraph, not simply supervisors. Second, the IXL component ensures your child always has access to skill building practice that matches their actual level. This is an academic program, not childcare with a homework corner.
